Scottish Race Management Conference
Twenty five RYA Qualified Race Officers, Judges and Umpires from eleven different Scottish Clubs attended the Scottish Regional Combined Race Management Judge and Umpire Conference hosted by the Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club on the 20th of February 2010. The Conference was organised by Scotland’s Regional Race Management Coordinator, David Kent of the Scottish Sailing Institute, and was generously sponsored by RYA Scotland.
The delegates enjoyed updates on the latest developments from the RYA covering the recently updated training schemes for all sailing officials plus revised courses for Race Officers, new Mark Laying and GPS training and proposals for the development of a new Seminar offering guidance on Safety procedures for regattas. The Conference also covered some of the more unusual scenarios likely to be encountered by race officers and the delegates discussed the options available on how to deal with those issues. Terence Brownrigg, Scottish Regional Rules Advisor gave a taster of the Rules Advisor Course which led to some interesting debate and Ronnie McKracken, an extremely experienced international Judge outlined some of the proposed developments that ISAF are undertaking.
