2.4mRs racing at Largs Day 2

2.4mR Regatta at Largs Day 2

Sunshine and breeze making for another great day of sailing for the 2.4mRs racing from Largs Sailing Club. The boats had 4 races scheduled for today and with conditions steady from the South this was easily achieved. Chris Hadden the Race Officer said “ a lovely easy day with steady winds and very little alterations to be made to the course over the 4 races.”

Blair Forbes sail number GBR26 had to retire from 3 of today races due to a broken bilge pump. In sea conditions with chop and spray the bilge pump is an essential part of the boat as a 2.4mR continually take water into the cockpit in these conditions. The other 4 boats continued and all completed the races in a steady 12-15knots breeze.

Although Megan Pascoe (GBR61) won 3 of the four races today Richard Cornah (GBR 84) challenged her losing by inches in Race 5. Richard won the first race of the day but had to settle for second place in the others. The fleet of 4 boats was like watching 2 match races going on as 61 & 84 raced one and other so did Peter Lewin (GBR3) and Fiona Morrison (GBR32). Fiona said “it was great sailing and she was determined to stay out and complete all four races – even when her kicker broke!” With a small fleet it is great that the boats have had good boat on boat racing during races.

Tomorrows forecast is strong winds which may impact on the final races taking place. A decision will be made inline with the local conditions tomorrow morning.

Results over all after 7 races with 1 discard:
1st Mega Pascoe (7pts), 2nd Richard Cornah (10pts), 3rd Peter Lewin (19pts), 4th Fiona Morrison (23pts) 5th Blair Forbes (29pts)
